Staying Clean
Hands should always be washed after using solvents, metals, or other toxic materials. Consider using disposable latex gloves when using, lead, cadmium, cobalt or other similar materials. If you do not protect your hands, it is a good idea to keep your finger nails short and cleaned. Toxic paint under the nails, is one of the most common entry points for toxic material into the body.
Food should never be eaten in the studio. Even the most careful artist will ingests hazardous materials if they eat in the studio. Smoking cigarettes while working can also result in hazardous materials getting into the mouth. Another common way to ingest these materials is from holding a paint brush in your mouth, this is not advisable even for the shortest amount of time.
The clothes we wear, smocks, pants, aprons, etc., when painting should be removed on leaving the studio. This clothing shold also be washed frequently. It is also advisable to have several sets of work clothes so they can be rotated regularly.
